OK, so this summer camp in Philadelphia called the Creative Steps Day Camp paid the Valley Swim Club $1900 to allow the kids from its summer camp to swim there. Apparently the administration of the club didn’t realize that a lot of the children in question would be Black. During their first visit to the pool, all of the kids were kicked out of the club.
Non-minority patrons were heard protesting that they feared for their kid’s safety: “Uh, what are all these black kids doing here? I’m scared they might do something to my child.” An attendant “came and told the black children that they did not allow minorities in the club and needed the children to leave immediately.”
The club management issued a statement – it was “concern[ed] that a lot of kids would change the complexion and the atmosphere of the club.”
