I’d submitted a shortened, condensed version of my autobiography to I’m From Driftwood several weeks ago (read it here). When I clicked “Submit”, I honestly didn’t even think that it would get published. I thought my autobiographical skills left a lot to be desired. Apparently I’m not nearly as bad as I thought.

Brian Ness's illustration of me, Dad and my brother at Sprague Lake.
I got an email this morning from Nathan Manske, admin of I’m From Driftwood. It turns out that artist Brian Ness picked my short autobiography to illustrate for his role as I’m From Driftwood’s featured artist this week!
This image in particular just captivated me. It’s an illustration of the paragraph titled 1996, in which I talk about our family vacations to Estes’ Park, Colorado. The illustration looks as if the artist is drawing while watching us fish from the North shore of Sprague Lake. I don’t know if Brian has been to Sprague Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park, but if not, he managed to illustrate it almost perfectly without ever seeing it.
You can check out more of Brian Ness’s work at his blog, Greetings From Dandyland. Many other stories like mine – at least one other also illustrated by Brian – can be found at I’m From Driftwood.
