There’s quite a bit of buzz going on in the Tech world since yesterday about the possibility that Apple will buy Twitter. Apparently the rumor is that Apple may be prepared to offer as much as $750 million for the starup (that’s 3 times Twitter’s estimated valuation).
Apple & Twitter: good or bad?
Honestly, I’m not sure how I feel about Apple running a social networking service. Apple has a tendency to be VERY heavy-handed – even litigious – in its approach to user rights. Twitter is about as open & transparent a service as you can find – as my friend Rob says, it’s basically porn with your clothes on; a form of massively distributed social voyeurism. I just don’t see that fitting comfortably into the Apple philosophy of user management.
I, for one, am hoping this is all just a rumor.
