Tor books has announced a release date for the first of three books that will make up a closing trilogy for Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series. As you may, or may not know, Jordan died, leaving his series unfinished. Fans, including myself, had feared that possibility for some time.
Brandon Sanderson, the author of the excellent Mistborn Trilogy, was selected by Tor and by Jordan’s family to finish the series. Jordan had written some of the final works already, and had passed the story on to his family.
Honestly, I was shocked to hear that there would be a trilogy of books! I, and many other fans, expected a “final book”. Sanderson and Jordan’s wife both stated that there was far too much material to cover in a single book – here’s hoping that’s the absolute truth, and this isn’t just an attempt to milk one of Tor’s greatest cash cows three last times.
